Football fan woke from a coma – after he was played commentary clips of his favourite team

football fan woke from a coma – after he was played commentary clips of his favourite team.

Steve Cheeseman's family were told to start arranging his funeral after he fell down a step and was knocked unconscious. But the 42-year-old defied doctors when he stirred to recordings of his beloved Ipswich Town.

His mother, Margaret, had been keeping a three-week bedside vigil when she noticed Mr Cheeseman's eye flicker open at Walsgrave Hospital, Coventry.

Soon his hand and knee also started twitching when a personal message from Blues manager Jim Magilton was played.

'We never gave up,' said Mrs Cheeseman. Her son is now continuing his therapy after the accident in November 2007. His story is also set for publication in a book chronicling what it means to be an Ipswich follower.
